Automatic Light During Outage With Computer Backup Power Supply

Plug a lamp into your computer's standalone backup power supply, if you have a spare outlet within the section that will receive power during an outage (my unit additionally has a section that will not be powered during an outage, but will still act as a surge protector and, in my unit's case, as a voltage regulator).

I did this three weeks ago, and was surprised at how much I (and my daughter!) appreciated the unwavering, uninterrupted lighting it provided when, a few nights ago, everything else (aside from the PC plugged in to this backup power supply) went powerless or dark.

I turned off my computer and estimated that, at least with our backup power supply, which will power one computer for roughly 30 minutes on its own, or two computers for 15 minutes, would, if the lamp was the only item drawing power, keep us with steady lighting for quite a time.

If you have children, computer(s) (or a Mac? I do not know if those use these), and a backup computer power supply, I recommend from experience that this tip will make the experience less of a panic, and help you get your other power outage necessities attended to more quickly and, in all likelihood, with less fuss and fear from your children, with such a clearly unwavering and strong source of light to rely on.

Even without children, I imagine I would still have derived much comfort from this steady light, as well as enjoyed the lack of the usual fumbling and stumbling around in the dark for flashlights, candles, and matches.
